What We’re Eating

Good morning. Ernest Hemingway said “Write hard and clear about what hurts.” While I wish I could, it’s harder than you’d think to put what’s going on on the inside on paper. But I can say this. Waiting hurts. A lot sometimes. Especially when you don’t understand the waiting. Sometimes it feels like sinking in quicksand, but still you have to smile for all the people around you. Sometimes you don’t know how you can be strong and hold your head up one more day. And then you open your Bible to Psalm 69 and read the places you’ve underlined in the past. You empathize with David. The swallowing waves are threatening to swallow your heart too. But then you get to the end. Thankfulness. Why does it always lead back to thankfulness?

When I first found the Jim Elliot quote above, I thought mainly about putting away your social media on vacation. Enjoy the scene in front of you and don’t worry about Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest. Be all there. This morning, it’s so much more than that. It’s not just being all in a moment in time. It’s being all in a moment of life. Thanking God for husbands that clean the kitchen. Thanking God for cats that greet you lovingly in the morning. Thanking God for a house to do projects in. Thanking God for family that see what’s going on on the inside and help to work through it and pray. Thanking God for His grace when you mess up and His strength to hold your head up through the waiting. Wherever you are, in your life, waiting and wishing and hoping and dreaming, don’t forget to thank God for what you already have. Don’t let the waiting consume you. Be all in your life.

Tuesday: Homemade Fettuccine Alfredo and Garlic Bread
Wednesday: Tuna Melts and Chips
Thursday: Sausage Gravy and Biscuits
Friday: Pizza
