The Watkins At Home In April

I was hoping that I would be a little sad to see April go but I have to say I’m waving goodbye with vigor. Even with some spots of sunshine, this month was hard. I mean, snow it April? Time to move. Here’s what’s been happening around here.

Hands

Thankfully I have some good bathroom progress to report! Walls are painted, the shower is grouted, the lighting is installed and the mirrors are purchased!!! You guys, I was starting to think I would never see the end of this project and while we aren’t done yet, it’s getting so so close. We have some touch up painting to do and then we can install the flooring. I’ve officially started buying decor.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably heard about my watercolors adventure. This year I included them in our Easter basket and it’s been a fun experience so far. It’s provided some girl time with my sister and a friend and inspiration for all the things I’d like to create. While I will never be a professional, just the act of doing something creative is good for me.

Hearth

15 cakes in and only one major fail so far. Two weeks ago I planned to make a Coffee Crunch Swirl Cake. First, I burnt the crunch part that goes on top. Then I baked the cake in a pan too small so there was no way I could roll it up. To solve the problem, I cut it in half and layered it with the coffee cream filling for icing. It ended up being one of my favorites yet! I might possibly try again at some point but right now that’s a scary prospect. So maybe just a little fail.

Despite the snow, we did grill out this month! Basically I couldn’t wait any longer. We made our favorite burgers and Dearest Carl smelled like the grill for the evening. Why don’t they make grill scented cologne? Also, we made french bread pizzas with our cocktail group which was super fun! I had a ton of ingredients and we made all kinds of combinations. Just bake at 350 for 10ish minutes.

Heart

This month started off insane as we tried to get the cat pee out of the guest bedroom carpet before my sister-in-law and niece came to stay for the weekend. It didn’t work and I’m ready to just cut out that corner of carpet altogether. Charlie went to the vet and came back with fleas. I didn’t get hardly any of the reading done I wanted to. We had too many inches of snow. Phew. I just had to get all that out. Because some months have some really not fun things.

On to better things, I’m so excited about the bathroom progress and I can’t wait to show pictures! I also spring cleaned our bedroom and it felt so nice to throw open those windows for a bit. And our bed smelled like lavender at the end of the day. A couple different times this month, I had my little sister and some friends over to hang out with me. Watercolors and nails and sparkly wine, it was all so good. Dearest Carl and I watched through Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 in about a week. We went to Pizza and Games night with our small group where I won yard Yahtzee and he played Capture The Flag. We went to visit family in Chicago for a weekend with two of my sisters-in-law. What began as a consolation trip for the canceled camping trip ended in a seriously awesome weekend away that was exactly what we needed.

I think that’s all I have to share. This month was kinda just keep your head down, nose to the grindstone. I’m really looking forward to the warmer temperatures and lilacs that May just has to bring!
