The Watkins At Home In January

Well, here we are saying goodbye to the first month of the year already! This month was a flurry of snow and activity and game nights and as we step into the pink glow of February, I think I’m ready.

Hand

January didn’t hold quite as much in the way of house projects as I’d anticipated, but we did check a few things off the list. Dearest Carl has been slowly cleaning out the office and I’ve been looking at paint colors. He also installed the dimmer switch in our dining room which was a long time coming. While the snow falls softly outside, I’ve been cozily planning my garden! I’m hoping I’ll get to expand into another raised bed and get a clematis to climb up the pergola. Lots of ideas and aspirations!

Hearth

Yes, I got an Instant Pot for Christmas. No I haven’t used it yet. All the good intentions in the world but it just didn’t happen this month. Instead, I’ve made fresh orange juice, one cake and tried out these marshmallows. I also met a friend for sushi at this place and it immediately jumped to the top of my list. My love for Asian food continues.

Home

The weather this month has made for real efforts to make things as cozy as possible around the house which means all the smells. I’ve been burning this candle all the chances I get and lotioning up with this at night. Plus I have lavender, rosemary and cedarwood in the diffuser. An experimental combination that was a big win.

Entertainment wise, Dearest Carl and I have been watching this show together and I’ve been loving my new seasons of Victoria and Call The Midwife. (All the period piece drama here!!!!) On the nightstand is this cozy book about hygge and I’ve just finished listening to a fun novel about fairies. I’ve also enjoyed listening to Mozart playlists and my almost 11 month old niece “read books” to herself.

The calendar this January has been amazing. We’ve had a couple game nights with some different couples and I’m here to say that I’m obsessed with this game. It’s even fun for Dearest Carl and I to play just the two of us! There was also date night and dinner out with the girls and plenty of evenings to just rest and be home. I couldn’t have asked for a better slow winter.

I’m looking at turning 27 in a few days and it’s bumming me out a little bit. I’m definitely not where I thought I would be when I turned 27. But I’m trying to focus on the good things about this year and all the fun plans we have ahead and not what’s missing or the expectations. If the rest of the year is as good as January was, I won’t complain!
