Thanksgiving in Quarantine

No, I do not have COVID, but we’re gonna talk about it because it’s still a thing. As numbers are rising we’re watching much of the world go back into lockdown, as well as biting our nails over our own upcoming holiday celebrations. It’s uncomfortable. It’s uncertain. It’s possible to make all the plans and then cancel all the plans. However, I’ve been thinking back on our Easter at home. It was weird but it was so good. And I’m determined that even if I have to make our own turkey this year, Thanksgiving will be wonderful. So if you’re someplace with a required lockdown or under quarantine or just anxious to be with the usual large crowd of family, here are some ideas to help make your Thanksgiving at home a special day. And hopefully we won’t miss the tradition too much.

  • Watch a Thanksgiving movie like Planes, Trains and Automobiles or A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
  • Roast a bird, be it turkey or chicken or duck. Don’t forget to dry brine!
  • Wear your flannel pajamas because you can and they’re hella comfy.
  • Start online shopping for Christmas gifts and take advantage of early sales.
  • Buy a new candle to burn all day. Someday the scent will remind you of this sweet time at home.
  • Try some fall nail art in glitter, swirls and turkeys.
  • Go for a brisk walk around the block.
  • Make a latte with maple and cinnamon.
  • Call your family. Like Zoom or Facetime so you can still see your mom.
  • Do a Thanksgiving puzzle. Something charming with all the fall colors.
  • Watch Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • Bake your favorite pie, using your traditional Thanksgiving host’s recipe.
  • Make a fall wreath. Forage for your own greenery or use simple twigs.
  • Put up the Christmas tree. Because 2020 has been a rough one.
